🐦 Through Historic Edo Waterways and Scenic Shallows: A 9km Waterfront Loop 🐦
Straddling the border between Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, and Misato City, Saitama, this scenic area is defined by Koaitame, a massive historic reservoir engineered during the Edo period for flood control and irrigation. Today, it forms one of the Tokyo metropolitan area’s most beautiful waterscape regions. This 9km GPS art course invites you to sketch a Ptarmigan, starting from Saitama Prefectural Misato Park on the Saitama side, crossing a historic lock, and looping through the grand expanses of Mizumoto Park.
The waterfront journey heads north along the eastern bank of Koaitame before crossing the Sarumata Lock, Nigohanryo, a valuable Taisho-era brick structure. Once on the Tokyo side, the trail winds south to the scenic Kawatsu-zakura cherry trees and runs through the spacious Memorial Square. Heading back north along the western bank, the route acts as a nature tour, guiding you past Wild Bird Observation House 4 and House 5, and the lush Aquatic Plant Garden. The grand finale takes you to Mizumoto Kawasemi no Sato, a nature center dedicated to local wildlife.
This completely flat 9km loop offers a refreshing breeze and unmatched natural scenery. When the digital bird appears on your map, you will have completed a spectacular journey across regional borders.
