Halloween GPS art in the center of ancient Saitama🎃👻💀
Let’s walk, run, and make Halloween a great time! This is a GPS art course where you can draw Halloween characters in Minuma, located in the center of Saitama City.
Minuma used to be Tokyo Bay during the Jōmon period (14,000 – 300 BC). After the Jōmon period, the coastline receded and the area became a huge marshland, Minuma. The area around Minuma was a valley with capes and inlets, and many place names have “kura (倉: valley),” “tani (谷: valley),” and “saki (崎: cape)” attached to them. The Hikawa shrines (Hikawa Shrine, Naka-Hikawa Shrine (Nakayama Shrine), and Hikawa Nyotai Shrine) were built in the area that was once the shore of Minuma to worship the dragon god that lived in the swamp.
During the Edo period (1603-1867), new rice fields were developed and the area became one of the leading breadbasket areas in Saitama Prefecture. During the economic growth period of the Taisho and Showa eras (20th century), the area maintained its green belt despite the urbanization of the surrounding area due to conservation policies.
It is rare to find such vast fields in an urban area. This course offers an exceptional experience in the heart of the city. We hope you will try this course and discover new charms of Saitama City!
