GPS art for Halloween to be drawn in the former prefecture center🎃👻💀
Let’s walk, run, and make Halloween a fun time! This GPS art course takes you to Iwatsuki, a castle town in the eastern part of Saitama City, where you can paint Halloween characters.
Although even Saitama citizens have a well-established image of Urawa as the prefectural capital. It may not be well known that Iwatsuki used to be the center of the neighborhood and the prefectural capital. The prefecture was merged into Saitama Prefecture a few months after the Meiji era (1868-1912) when the Iwatsuki domain was abolished and Iwatsuki Prefecture was created. Before that, Iwatsuki was a castle town of the Iwatsuki domain, and the prefectural office was located near Horinji Temple. After about a month, it was moved to Urawa by the first prefectural governor’s request. After that, it developed as Iwatsuki City, but was incorporated into Saitama City in the Heisei merger and became “Iwatsuki Ward, Saitama City”.
This tour will take you around the area that used to be the castle town of Iwatsuki Castle. We hope you will feel the vestiges of the once prosperous castle town!
