Frog-Shaped GPS Art in a City of Waterways🐸
Located in southern Saitama Prefecture, Toda City is surrounded by the Arakawa River and its tributaries, making it a city closely tied to water. One of its most iconic landmarks is the Toda Boat Racecourse, the very first motorboat racing venue established in Japan. It also served as the venue for the rowing competitions during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, leaving behind a rich historical legacy. Today, the calm waters and the well-maintained surroundings provide a relaxing space for both residents and visitors.
This 12km GPS art course draws an adorable frog around the Toda Boat Racecourse area. As a symbol of aquatic life and a familiar motif of Japan’s rainy season, the frog is perfectly suited for a walk along water-rich landscapes. The route follows riverside paths along the Arakawa River, loops around the racecourse, and winds through quiet residential streets and green promenades. The terrain is mostly flat, making it an accessible and enjoyable course for all levels of walkers.
Walking this course allows you to create a piece of art step by step while taking in the tranquil water scenery that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding urban life. As you move through the city, this unique experience blends local history, nature, and creativity—transforming your ordinary walk into something truly special.
