Takasaki City in Gunma Prefecture has long thrived as a vital transportation hub, historically connecting the Nakasendo and Mikuni Highways, and today serving as a major Shinkansen gateway. It also embraces a proud samurai legacy as a castle town founded by Ii Naomasa, one of the Tokugawa Four Heavenly Kings. The urban trek begins toward the northeast near Takasaki Station and the contemporary Takasaki Museum of Art. Heading southwest, you will pass the state-of-the-art Takasaki Arena, the Takasaki City Jōnan Baseball Stadium, and the NHO Takasaki General Medical Center, catching the refreshing atmosphere of the waterfront. The trail then winds north past the sacred Yorimasa Shrine and the ancient Ryūkō-ji Temple. Finally, you will explore the impressive moats of the Takasaki Castle Site Park, the towering Takasaki City Hall, and the lush lawns of Takasaki Park.
