Walk Through the Heat Capital: “HOT” GPS Art Course in Tatebayashi✨
Tatebayashi City in Gunma Prefecture is known as one of the hottest places in Japan. In the heart of this heat capital, a 6km GPS art course has been created around the east side of Tatebayashi Station, drawing the word “HOT.” By walking this unique route, you can embrace the summer heat and turn it into an entertaining experience.
Tatebayashi is located in a lowland area of the Tone River basin. The city’s inland climate and urban heat island effect combine to produce extremely high summer temperatures, often earning it the top spot in national heat rankings. But Tatebayashi is not just about heat — it also boasts a rich history as a castle town, with remnants of the old townscape still visible around the station. Highlights include Tsutsujigaoka Park, famous for its azaleas, and historical streetscapes that evoke the Edo period.
The course winds through flat and easily walkable city streets, making it suitable even for beginners. With proper sun protection and hydration, walkers can enjoy both the historical charm and the sizzling atmosphere that make Tatebayashi unique. Why not draw “HOT” with your footsteps and turn a scorching summer day into a memorable adventure?
