In the nostalgic town of Sawara, part of Katori City in Chiba Prefecture, a delightful “ghost” has appeared just in time for Halloween! Walk the 7km GPS art course, and you’ll draw an adorable spirit across this beautifully preserved “Little Edo” townscape.
Starting from JR Sawara Station, the route guides you past landmarks like the statue of Tadataka Inō, Katori City Hall, and the Suigo-Sawara Tourist Information Center. You’ll also visit Suwa Shrine, known for its deep local faith, and the historic Tōkun Sake Brewery, where traditional craftsmanship continues today.
Once a thriving riverside hub along the Tone and Ono Rivers, Sawara flourished through its merchant culture and waterways. Today, its traditional wooden buildings and stone bridges offer a glimpse into Japan’s Edo-period charm.
