🐦 Through Tokachi’s Great Parks: A 10km Ptarmigan Art Loop in Obihiro 🐦
Obihiro City, located at the heart of the vast Tokachi Plain in Hokkaido, is a land of endless blue skies and bountiful harvests. This 10km GPS art course invites you to sketch a Ptarmigan (Raicho), starting from the charming Obihiro Zoo. Nestled within the expansive Midorigaoka Park, this area serves as a cultural and natural hub where history and art intersect.
The journey takes you through the Obihiro Centennial Museum, which tells the spirited story of the region’s pioneers, and the Obihiro Art Museum, known for its elegant exhibitions. As you trace the silhouette of the bird, you will traverse the lush lawns of the Obihiro City Green Plaza and head toward Akashiya Park. The geography here is characteristically flat and spacious, allowing for a breezy trek that perfectly captures the “frontier spirit” of Hokkaido.
The Ptarmigan is a sacred alpine bird, a relic of the Ice Age found in Hokkaido’s high peaks like the Daisetsuzan range. Drawing this mountain icon across the Tokachi lowlands creates a poetic connection between the fertile plains and the rugged summits visible on the horizon. This 10km circuit is remarkably accessible due to the city’s organized layout and gentle terrain. After completing your digital masterpiece, reward yourself with Obihiro’s famous sweets or a hearty pork bowl. By the time the Ptarmigan appears on your screen, you’ll have experienced the soulful harmony of nature, culture, and history that defines this northern sanctuary.
