🐦 Through Ieyasu’s Historic Castle Town and River Bridges: A 17km Ptarmigan Loop 🐦
Shizuoka City, framed by the Southern Alps to the north and Suruga Bay to the south, is a historic destination famously developed as the retirement seat of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. This 17km GPS art course invites you to sketch a Ptarmigan, starting from Sunpu Castle Park and tracing a grand loop across historic quarters, major transit hubs, and the scenic Abekawa River.
The journey begins within the castle’s inner rings, passing Sumpu Castle Park Momijiyama Garden and the modern Shizuoka City Museum of History. Heading south past Shin-Shizuoka and Shizuoka Stations, the route guides you near Shizuoka Science Museum RU KU RU and the art galleries of the Sumpu Museum. After reaching the iconic steel-truss arches of Abekawa Bridge, a historic crossing on the old Tokaido highway, you will wind back north. The trail then leads to the majestic Shizuoka Sengen Shrine, a sacred sanctuary celebrated for its lacquer-painted buildings, before returning to the park.
