GPS art of a snake, drawn at a Snake spot in Nagano🐍✨
This GPS art course takes visitors to the area around Snake Mound, a famous snake’s spot in Nagano, where you can draw a snake, the animal of the Chinese zodiac.
There is a legend about a giant snake in the Snake Mound that sits in front of Saikoji Temple, facing the old Hokkoku Highway. In 1876, a woodcutter near Saikoji temple killed a giant snake in the mountains and made a show of its carcass for profit, but his family died one after another and misfortune spread to the surrounding area. Fearful people built a tomb at Saikoji Temple to repose the spirit of the serpent. This snake mound, which is believed to bring misfortune if moved, was left intact when the road was widened and serves as the entrance to the temple.
In 2025, Snake Mound may become a popular spot. Please try it during your first visit to the shrine🐍✨
