🐦 Through the Golden Shachihoko Castle and Verdant Parklands: A 5km Ptarmigan Loop 🐦
Nagoya City in Aichi Prefecture is Japan’s central metropolis, built around the glorious Nagoya Castle—a magnificent fortress constructed by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and famously crowned with golden shachihoko roof ornaments. Today, the area seamlessly blends Edo-period samurai heritage with dynamic urban energy. This 5km GPS art course invites you to sketch a Ptarmigan, starting in front of the Aichi Gakuin University – Meijo Koen Campus inside Meijō Park.
The cultural loop heads south along Otsu-dori Avenue, passing the historic Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, the stately Main Gate (Former Enokida-mon Gate), and the traditional Nagoya Nogakudo Noh Theater. Turning west, the trail traces the scenic Horikawa Canal, a historic waterway that once supplied the castle grounds. Heading north, you will discover the interactive Meta Water Sewerage Science Museum Nagoya and the state-of-the-art IG Arena before looping through the lush, forested paths of Meijō Park toward the finish line.
This completely flat 5km trail offers pleasant park greenery alongside breathtaking views of the majestic castle keep. When the digital silhouette appears on your smartphone screen, you will have completed a delightful running tour through the regal heart of Nagoya.
